Do You Like Who You Are, or Do You Want to Be Someone Else?

Do You Want to Be Someone Else

  • Are you happy with who you are, or do you want to be someone else?
  • Are you satisfied with your life, or do you want to live a different kind of life?

Why do we like to watch movies, read gossip columns, and follow celebrities on Twitter and Facebook?

I believe that one of the main reasons we do that is because this provides a small window, or rather a peephole, through which we can share other people’s lives.

There is always a subconscious desire to have a different life, to be someone else. Everybody wants a different, bigger life, and the movies and the gossip columns provide the peephole for the life we want.

There is always a subconscious desire for mimicry and impersonation. If this makes you feel, and if this makes you feel inspired, good, that’s fine.

In some cases, the desire to be like someone else drives people onward to accomplish great goals. However, most of the time, curiosity leads nowhere except for just a few moments of joy.

Mimicking and Trying to Be Like Someone Else

William Shakespeare said: “God has given you one face, and you make yourself another.”

William Shakespeare was right. People want to be someone else. They want to feel and behave like someone else. Often, they put on masks when interacting with other people.

However, there are people who like who they are and don’t feel the need to imitate others. This makes them happy and allows them to live in peace with themselves and the world.

Most of the time, mimicking others and wanting to live a different kind of life leads nowhere because people don’t take the right steps and actions to make changes in their lives. They just keep watching movies and reading the gossip columns.

On the other hand, there are also people who get inspired by reading about successful people and then do everything they can to be as successful as they can.

People who like who they are possess self-confidence and self-esteem. They do not need to mimic others or dream about being someone else. If they want a particular lifestyle or particular job or goal, they will put every effort into getting it. They don’t feel the need to look through the peephole at the lives of other people.

Do You have Your Own Opinions?

Oscar Wilde said: “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

What about you? Do you have your own thoughts and your own opinions, or other people’s thoughts and opinions? Do you have your own definite opinions, or do you follow others’ opinions?

There is a beautiful quote from Judy Garland about this topic, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.”

There is great wisdom in these words. You become happier and more satisfied, and your self-esteem and self-confidence become stronger, when you are a first-rate version of yourself. People will respect you more, when you are a first-rate version of yourself and not a second-rate version of somebody else.

It is okay if you wish to be as good, as great, as happy or as successful as someone else. It is a okay if you have a role model to follow, but at the same time be yourself. Be a good version of yourself.

If you want to live a different life, if you want to be as successful as someone else, you need to do something about it. Daydreaming and reading about other people’s life will not change your life. You need to take action. You need to have ambition and inner strength.

It’s easier to read about other people’s great lives. It’s easier to follow them on Twitter and Facebook, and it requires no effort to watch movies that momentarily make you forget your troubles and problems.

To live the life you want you need to make plans, take action, and use creative visualization and the law of attraction.
