What is the first thing you do when you wake up? Do you pull your blanket above your head, so you won’t hear the alarm clock and continue sleeping?
Maybe the first thing you do is grab your smartphone and read your mail, text to your friends, or read the news.
Most people, when they wake up in the morning, are not fully conscious and focused. It takes a few minutes until they get focused. For some people, it takes much longer.
Others, are more extreme, and don’t want people talking to them until quite long after they wake up.
Make Your Day a Positive Day
Everyone goes through a certain morning ritual. You may start with the bathroom, or getting the family ready for school or work, or you might start with cooking or cleaning.
It is always rush time, no time and no patience. Sometimes, by the time you get to work you are already exhausted.
Few find the time in the morning for more than their basic needs. Few consider their state of mind or think about a different way of starting the day. Yet, how you think and feel in the morning impacts your day.
Do you think about the problems and ordeals you are going to face today, or about the things you are going to achieve today?
Why not start your day, differently, and in a positive way?
With just a few minutes and few actions, you can start your day differently and turn it into a satisfying and positive day.
6 Positive Ways to Start Your Day
Here are a few suggestion and tips to build a different morning ritual that will turn your day into a better, more satisfying day.
1. Start the day with anticipation of a wonderful day
You might say that is not possible to anticipate a wonderful day, because you have a lot of problems. Okay, that might be true, but it doesn’t cost you money and you lose nothing, if despite you problems, you choose to anticipate a wonderful day upon waking up.
In your mind, you can think anything you want, even if it is not true in your everyday life. Any thought that you focus on grows, gets stronger, and eventually affect your life.
This means that if you strive to start the day with positive thoughts and with the anticipation that everything would turn right, this would eventually become your reality.
For just a few minutes, imagine and feel that today is going to be a wonderful and a special day for you. Awaken hope, belief and expectation of a wonderful day, even if you feel you are faking. Afterwards, during the day, try to avoid negative thinking that could neutralize the good feelings and positive expectations you have awakened in you.
2. Wake up a little earlier in the morning
Wake up a little earlier, so that you can have at least ten minutes to be alone and do of one of the following things:
a) Just sit down and relax your body.
b) Just sit down and try not to think of anything. If thoughts fill your mind, calmly and without force, try not to follow them.
c) Read a page or two from an inspiring book.
This will calm your body and mind, and prepare you to tackle the tasks of the daily calmly and efficiently.
3. Breakfast is an important meal
Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast. Breakfast means breaking the fast you had when you slept.
Nutritionists advise that breakfast should be eaten within two hours of waking. Do you skip breakfast because you have no time or don’t feel hungry? Well, don’t. After eating breakfast you will feel calmer, your mind will be sharper, and you will have more energy and confidence to face the new day.
4. Gratitude and counting your blessings
I have read many times that you get a feeling of contentment, when you start the day with counting your blessings. No matter how difficult your life might be, if you think a little, you will discover at least a few blessings.
For a few minutes, focus on your blessings. Think about your family and children and about helpful friends. Think about your job, no matter what it is, and that it is helping you buy food and clothes, and support your family.
You may also focus on any talent you have, a hobby, or anything that you are good at.
Focusing such thoughts in the morning makes you feel lighter, calmer and happier.
5. Read a few inspiring quotes
I wrote this same advice in a few of my other articles, since it’s helpful and inspiring to read quotes. I know this from my experience. When I had a day job, I used to read a few quotes before going to work, and do this now too. This act awakens positive feelings and inspiration that continue for quite a long time afterwards.
6. Ask yourself, how can I make today better than yesterday?
Find the time for a few minutes, to think and come up with ideas how not to repeat yesterday’s mistakes, and what you can do today, better than you did yesterday.
It would be good idea, if you write down your thoughts. It is even more importantly that follow through with what you wrote.
Now, let me ask you:
How do you start your day, positively or negatively?
What do you do to start your day positively?
Is what you are doing helpful?
You should ask yourself these questions often, so you can improve what you are doing and change your tactics if you need to so more or something different.
